L’Oréal Acquires The Canadian Suncare Brand Ombrelle Group

The L'Oréal Group has acquired Ombrelle, maker of suncare products, from the Canadian company Dermtek Pharmaceuticals, Ltd.

A leading sun protection authority in Canada, Ombrelle is the second-best selling brand of suncare products on the Canadian market.

Sold principally in drugstores, Ombrelle products are recommended by dermatologists and bear the seal of approval of the Canadian Society of Dermatologists.

Lindsay Owen-Jones, Chairman and CEO of L'Oréal, said that "the acquisition of the Ombrelle brand has a strategic significance for L'Oréal's North American activities, since it will give the Group the opportunity to participate in the growth of the suncare market as well as to work directly with dermatologists." This acquisition will also permit the L'Oréal Group to take advantage of its advanced technology in the vast sunscreen area.
