L'Oréal Cherrypack 2011

100 packaging innovations in exclusive preview for L’Oréal!

Second edition of CHERRY PACK, an innovation forum organized at the core of the company, with 7 packaging suppliers selected for their innovation capacity...

Saint Ouen, 24 November 2011 – The second Cherry Pack, which took place at one of the L’Oréal sites in Saint Ouen, has now drawn to a close. This new edition, allowing L’Oréal to develop closer relations with its suppliers, once again provided rich moments of dialogue around numerous innovations.

For the second year running, L'Oréal staged its internal packaging innovation show, known as the "Cherry Pack". During two days, 7 of around 15 preselected suppliers had the opportunity to present their innovations. These included a mix of "ready-to-launch" solutions responding in a highly targeted way to L’Oréal needs, as expressed in the project's specifications, together with "prospective" innovations proposed spontaneously by the suppliers.

The format of this event certainly furthers L’Oréal's ambition to develop long-term relations with its suppliers. The Cherry Pack provides the perfect opportunity for two days of direct, informal discussions between the Group's brands and its suppliers.

According to Christophe Guesnet, L’Oréal Purchasing General Manager: "Innovation is at the heart of L’Oréal's strategy, and this collaborative work with our packaging suppliers is a fine example. Over these two days, the selected suppliers, briefed on our main requirements, were able to present the General Management and Marketing departments of all our brands with their ideas. These mainly concern delivering our new formulas in the most effective way possible, and introducing new gestures and a completely new aesthetic look. The exchanges built up over these two days were a unique occasion to share complementary expertise and dream up future products together."

The Cherry Pack: a genuine innovation incubator

This year the project went one stage further, as L’Oréal shared the strategy of its brands in an even more confidential way. The suppliers replied to a brief summary listing the various expectations expressed by the Marketing teams of each of the Group's brands, and by Research & Innovation.

The seven suppliers selected this year by L’Oréal are:

Primary packaging category : JACKEL, REXAM, RPC and YONWOO

Secondary packaging category : RLC

Sample and single dose category : BIOPLAN

Finishing and decoration category : POCHET-QUALIPAC-SOLEV Group

Of these, YONWOO had already participated in the first Cherry Pack.

On this occasion, Philippe Thuvien, L’Oréal Packaging & Development General Manager commented: "At L’Oréal, innovation is a part of our DNA. In an increasingly competitive economic context, we have to be able to offer our brands innovations that match their needs and the specificities of their markets, with the spotlight on agility. Partnerships with our suppliers mean that we can speed up packaging innovation at L’Oréal. 2012 will mark real progress in this approach with the launch of four major innovations in the first half, resulting from co-development with our suppliers."
